FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- An unprecedented three-night span of Super Late Model racing has been scheduled for Fayetteville Motor Speedway on Sept. 29-30 and Oct. 1 - the 2ndannual running of the Boom City Fall Classic.
The historic weekend at the 4/10ths-mile oval will kick off Sept. 29 with a 50-lap, $10,000-to-win appearance by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. That event has been dubbed the Wayne Gray Sr. Memorial.
The event was rained out July 7, but the rescheduling, which was announced earlier this week, will allow fans to see more than two dozen top drivers, including: former Lucas champions Scott Blomquist of Mooresburg, Tennessee; Jonathan Davenport of Mount Airy; Dunn-Benson Ford driver Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tennessee, and Don O'Neal of Martinsburg, Indiana, who drives for NASCAR Sprint Cup standout Clint Bowyer.
Many of those drivers are expected to remain on hand for the Sept. 30 running of the Battle for Bragg, a non-sanctioned race with a $5,000-to-win payout.
Finally, on Saturday, Oct. 1, the Carolina Clash Super Late Model series returns to Fayetteville for its fourth visit of the season, and the winner's purse has been boosted to $5,000.
